Growing up in Nicaragua, I witnessed a lot of poverty, violence and injustice, which affected me deeply. From very early age I recognized that I was privileged comparing to the rest of citizens from my country, and I felt it was my responsibility to give back to those that did not have the education and opportunities I had. Because I want to be the change I want to see in the world, I have been very proactive and tried to find different paths to help solve poverty and inequity in my community and the world. This led me to found and co-found several organizations that are change makers and responsible towards society.
After a long journey, incredible experiences, and some frustration, I realized that the answer to solve poverty in the world was not in governments, for dividend businesses or NGOs. It is true they all help and are important, but in my opinion, they are highly ineffective one way or the other. I felt we needed a hybrid solution that brought the best of them all into one. When I found out about social entrepreneurship, I became extremely passionate about it, because I strongly believe that it is the best way to help people recognize their inner power, and once they feel empowered they will make a real change in the world.
