Vita Madagascar
We enable low-income women to purchase income-enhancing equipment with a pay-as-you-go payment plan.
Vita Madagascar is a non-profit import company focused on sustainable economic development, that brings portable, stainless-steel sugar cane presses used to produce cane juice, combined with a credit-based payment plan to double income generated by low-income women in Toamasina.
FIVE PROJECT QUESTIONS Required (60 - 90 minutes)
1. What is your innovation?
We enable low-income women to purchase income-enhancing equipment with a pay-as-you-go payment plan carefully tailored to their needs, in collaboration with OTIV Zone Littoral, a well-functioning Malagasy microfinance. We train women how to use these machines, providing them with skills in machinery operation, marketing, and small enterprise development. They then pay us in full for the machines. They repay their investment to OTIV slowly through accumulated earnings from sale of cane juice.
2. Who gains the most?
Female cane juice vendors more than double their hourly income from a former maximum of 2000 ariary ($0.90) to an hourly minimum wage of nearly 5000 ariary ($2.27).
