It aims to empower 1000 adolescent girls and 500 women from cyclone 'Thane' affected areas in TN with skills.

In 2011, the various parts of Tamil Nadu, India were experienced one of the most severe disasters called cyclone Thane. It is really astonishing to see Thane affected people returning to normal life. The South Arcot District mainly Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu a disaster-prone region where agriculture and fishing are dominant occupations. This region is worst affected which forced coastal fishing and farming communities to stay into relief shelters like schools and government buildings. The standing crop in 100,000 acres of land in the entire southern part of Tamil Nadu has been damaged which has seriously impacted on the survival and coping capacity of the farmers. The lives of the fisher folk is once again thrown into despair and agony around the coast.

After the Thane, cultivation and catching fish are reduced and inhabitants from these villages need alternative sources of income generation. Women and girls are especially treated as underprivileged as their lowly status subjects them to several exploitations. Though there is a long way to achieve women’s equality in the society but the process is initiated. In these circumstances, women themselves can prove that they have an important role in disaster management and rebuilding families.
