We empower women who are rescued from human trafficking by providing them a DIGNIFIED source of LIVELIHOOD.

Introduction:

Srujna is a social enterprise which provides income opportunities to the women who are rescued from trafficking by providing skill training in fashion jewellery making and then providing them with gainful employment. This jewellery is sold through online and offline sales channels like exhibitions, export orders, online retail sales. Profits generated through sales help in making this social business model scalable and sustainable.

To take the first step in this direction, Srujna implemented a pilot project in a Shelter Home in Mumbai and provided skill training of fashion jewellery making to 30 women who were rescued victims of human trafficking.

Beneficiaries:

According to a report published by Times of India, more than 3 million people are trafficked in India and more than 38,782 rescued victims are staying in shelter homes away from their family. P.M. Nair and Sen in their book, ‘Trafficking in Women and Children in India’ have highlighted the fact that a huge portion of around 83.4% of the women in shelter homes are in need of rehabilitation such as psycho-socio and  vocational rehabilitation.

The beneficiaries working with Srujna are typically women living in shelter homes, above 18 years of age and having no income. Srujna aims to empower these women into the society as financially independent and self confident individuals.

Business Model:

Srujna trains women living in shelter homes in fashion jewellery making, in their shelter home itself. Post the trainings these women are employed with Srujna.

The products made are sold by vaious online and offline channels like exhibitions, export orders and online retail. Srujna is designing a simple java based software for online customisation of fashion jewellery.
