Impoverished Female Indian Artisans, US Garment Manufacturers, Stylish Socially-Conscious North American Women

As a social enterprise, REVIVAL Style blends high style with high social impact by fusing female Indian artisan craftwork with modern design to produce apparel for stylish and socially-conscious women.

We empower women – both those producing and those wearing our apparel.  By collaborating with impoverished female Indian artisans, we fuse the beauty of their craft work with modern silhouettes, enabling them to access a larger market. Through this process, we provide these women sustainable and equitable employment, helping them uplift their families out of poverty.  REVIVAL Style aims to elevate the social status of rural Indian women, and challenge the conventions of their traditionally patriarchal communities, helping them to raise their sense of self-worth.

As for our female customers, in addition to offering them stylish, ethical, distinctively embellished apparel, we also provide them with a unique labeling system that reinforces positive body image. We believe that every woman should feel confident in what she is wearing.  With each piece of our debut micro-collection, REVIVAL Style enables women to look good, feel good and do good.

With a self-sustaining business model, and social measures for three key stakeholder groups, REVIVAL Style is poised to lead significant social change within the fashion space. REVIVAL Style’s pilot micro-collection will launch in February 2012. We will prove that there is a market for stylish socially-conscious apparel and establish best practices for other Western players to work with artisan communities. We will scale our social enterprise model across artisan villages in India, and eventually Africa and South America, allowing for a truly global social impact.

FIVE PROJECT QUESTIONS Required (60 - 90 minutes)

1. What is your innovation?
REVIVAL Style prioritizes both style and social impact. We create multi-dimensional social impact throughout the value chain by connecting artisans with US garment manufacturers and consumers. Our approach to design entails collaborating with our artisan partners to maintain the authenticity of their craftwork without compromising the aesthetic needs of the market.
2. Who gains the most?
REVIVAL Style “revives” three key stakeholder groups: 1) Impoverished female artisans in rural India benefit from sustainable employment, and we allocate a portion of our profits to education funds for their children. 2) US garment manufacturers receive business through our production process, which helps create and sustain local jobs. 3) Stylish socially-conscious N. American women now have a go-to brand and increased confidence from an innovative sizing system, promoting healthy body image.
3. Who pays?
As a for-profit social enterprise, REVIVAL Style will sell directly to our customers through two distinct retail channels - www.shoprevivalstyle.com and shopping parties hosted in various cities throughout North America. Social impact is has been carefully integrated into every major element of our value chain, which allows us to generate positive social outcomes for each stakeholder group as a result of our sustainable business model.
4. What is your success?
To REVIVAL Style, success is breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty for our Indian artisan partners, sustaining local manufacturing jobs in the US, and enabling our stylish and socially-conscious customers to LOOK GOOD, FEEL GOOD and DO GOOD. With funding from Dell’s Social Innovation Challenge, we will produce a line that will result in $170,000 in sales revenue in Year 1, growing to $4.1 million in Year 5, which will bring 400 rural Indian women and their families out of poverty.
5. How will you do it?
The success of REVIVAL Style’s pilot proves there is a market for stylish socially-conscious apparel. We’ll scale our social enterprise model across India, Africa and South America, making a truly global social impact. We begin by (1) providing sustainable and equitable employment to rural artisans, which provides funds for their children’s education; (2) creating and sustaining local jobs for US manufacturers; (3) giving customers what they want - apparel that helps them LOOK, FEEL & DO GOOD.
