Engaging youth and communities through inspiring talks + ready opportunities from organisations wanting a hand

How many times have you gotten inspired by a TED talk and wanted to do something...and then forgot to...or...didn't know where to start?

Now imagine a high school student whom hasn't had work experience, has been told that there are only a handful of viable careers for their future, and is trying to survive school...and TED is far away, and very expensive.

This project is:

1) A web platform that combines free information and internship recruitment: Starts in 1 city, with a transferable model to become global.

2) Has videos uploaded by organisations in the local city - length limit at 12/15 minutes.

3) Each organisation uploading a video must also have a profile, and include at least 1 internship, volunteering, or work opportunity for youth (can be rolling application basis, or seasonal)

4) Youth can also create a profile, which can be linked to a LinkedIn account if they want to increase chances of being scouted - they need to be members to see the recruitment link/e-mails

Initial content generation will be produced by the in-house team working with local organisations. Once we have around 30 videos we will launch.

Quality will be ensured through approval of submitted videos. Videos are meant to be inspirational, succinct and can use any footage pertaining to the organisation. It can be web-cam made to encourage small organisations to participate.

Security: Organisations must have verifiable information (website, executives, HR contact, etc.) to avoid scams. There will be user & viewer ratings.

The difference is in the design & content presentation: an intuitive design interface, splash screen for local sites, and an interactive map for the global site.

SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE SECTION FOR CLEARLY ANSWERING FIVE PROJECT QUESTIONS

What is your innovation?
Save youth from years of school boredom, and universities from lost students, and companies from uninterested employees. It is on a web platform with inspirational and educational videos (15 mins max) and volunteer/intern/job opportunities at the organisations that want to recruit youth. It is a fun educational source, and connects youth whom want to get work experience with local initiatives and organisations (companies included) that want help.
Who gains the most?
Locals in the city gain, specifically youth and the respective organisations and companies. Youth gain a fun way to discover topics outside of school, an insight into their city, learn about career opportunities AND the opportunity to act after watching a video that inspires them, which then gives them work experience before they fish around in post-secondary. Local organisations/companies (int'l organisations incl) gain visibility, needed seasonal help, and opportunity to engage future talent
What is your success?
Success is usage and growth. In 12 months, it should be user generated content sustained, with increasing traffic, and successful internships, or employment. I will start in Hong Kong, where I have the most connections. In 3 years, the model should expand to at least 5 other cities and have more services on the website. In 5 years, the NPO should have support infrastructure (i.e. scholarships etc), not just info. Having hubs in developing countries is a bottom line for success.
How will you do it?
I need a solid team of programmers to get the website right the first time around. There needs to be at least one seasoned video person, so that this can be at least a semi-professional job. From there, I will leverage my TEDx networks and Hong Kong education networks to partner up with schools and local organisations to get video content and internships started. Promotion must be sustained and long term, until the project works, or someone else takes the idea and makes it better without me. :-)
