sustainable development with healthy people

  1. Background

Rwanda is challenged by HIV/AIDS and reproductive health problems. Here 7% of people are contaminated and the annual birth rate is estimated at 40.2 births per 1,000 inhabitants. This is complicated by the following situations:

The governmental health sensitization systems are not reaching the grass root level and this makes many people rely on false health beliefs and information

Stigmatization  which leads to many health issues being taboo, not easy to talk in public, and lack of will to go for voluntary HIV testing and counseling. This has a big impact in HIV transmission.

Cultural beliefs: many children is God’s blessing and a honor and this leads to a high reproductive rate

The project plans to address the health problems in rural areas targeting people from the reproductive age, including HIV/AIDS teachings, sensitization for voluntary HIV testing and counseling, reproductive health and family planning education by outreaching down to the grassroots level
