VOTES

This is an individual project.
Fostered teens will have a sense of unity in a safe place where friends are made by fun and exciting events.

The KEY Lounge is presented by F.O.S.T.E.R. (Funding Organized Shelters That Enhance Recreation). In order for teens in foster care to feel the same as their peers, The Key Lounge is avaliable for them to "hang out" and get away from the stresses of family, bullies, or other hardships. There are various rooms in the KEY Lounge:

  • Den with entertainment system
  • Game Room with ping pong, video games, foosball
  • Psych Center with counseling for those teens who qualify
  • Kitchen with snacks
  • Rooms for studying/tutoring
  • MAC (Main Activity Center) where evening socials and dances occur
  • Workout/yoga room

F.O.S.T.E.R. will give each member a "KEYchain" which allows entrance into the lounge. It is important for each member to "fit in" and express their interests in a stress-free enviornment.

SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE SECTION FOR CLEARLY ANSWERING FIVE PROJECT QUESTIONS

What is your innovation?
After having an interview with several teenagers in foster care, the majority of them insisted on having a place where they could get together and relax. I decided to jump on this opportunity and invent a "KEY Lounge" where these teens could retreat to, get tutoring from, exercise at, and most importantly boost self esteem as a fostered teenager. It is imperative that everyone "fits in."
Who gains the most?
Fostered teenagers (ages ranging from 13-20 years) who are undergoing stress and social difficulties for any reason. Those who aren't experiencing obstacles will also benefit from The KEY Lounge. They will have higher grades, more peer interaction, healthy diet options, and an inviting atmosphere.
Who pays?
Various donors, local grocery stores, and any other businesses who are committed to helping fostered youth. They will have advertisements displayed around the Lounge and we will highly promote their businesses.
What is your success?
Once the word it out, teens from many cities will unite under one roof. This will spread and the social impact for the future will be determined by how many fostered teens there are in the community.
