Most volunteers volunteer for a bit, often times never looking back after their departure. We aim to change this. With iTeach, we advocate and push for a CONSISTENT form of teaching English via Skype.

iTeach Community provides English language training to remote communities in developing countries.

iTeach is a club in Brown University (with another branch in Sydney, Australia)  that currently delivers a program of English language training to the Self Help Community Centre (SHCC) in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Brown students in America deliver this program to teachers in SHCC via Skype. SHCC is based in a rural community and to enhance the employment prospects of its residents, there is a need to target the teaching of English towards the booming tourism and hospitality industry. SHCC also wants to improve the outcome of its residents in tertiary education where instruction and reference materials are in English.

This project aims to develop the tools to measure the effectiveness of its English training program. It also aims to develop industry specific English learning and teaching materials for the tourism and hospitality industry and tertiary education.more information about the school here:

FIVE PROJECT QUESTIONS Required (60 - 90 minutes)

1. What is your innovation?
Most nonprofit volunteers work for a certain amount of time in an area, later leaving and continuing on with their lives. What makes iTeach unique is that there is consistency; the volunteers in America remain constant, and the number of Cambodian children wanting to learn English never dwindles. Internet is available on both ends, and so while iTeach is a simple organization and innovation, the impacts and benefits for these Cambodian students are myriad.
2. Who gains the most?
The students are part of a school where they spend three years learning English, and when they are in their last year they are trained as teachers to then go back and teach younger students English. It is a self-sufficient and self-perpetuating cycle that has proven successful. Where we come in is to better refine the students English, be it via grammar, pronunciation, and so forth. With English, they are better suited to enter the job sector, and with English, the possibilities are endless!!
3. Who pays?
Nobody. Skype is a free program, and with access to internet on both sides, no donors or money is required.
4. What is your success?
The program has been established at Brown University for the past six months, and it has proved to be quite successful. There is currently another branch of iTeach at the University of Sydney which has experienced equal success. Students on both ends have expressed positive thoughts in regard to the program!
5. How will you do it?
By spending the summer perfecting the curriculum and fine-tuning the program, our impact will be that much more magnified. Further, there is always the potential of expanding to other communities (and partner universities)!
