Investing Together - Unlocking Student & University Potential for Social Change
“Investing Together,” is a network of non-profit, student based investment funds with a sole focus on investing in projects defined by social entrepreneurship. The individual fund is controlled by its student members, either current students or alumni, and is advised by professionals within the field. The purpose is to grant shorter-term loans to projects and organizations involved with social entrepreneurship, independent of geographical location. The ultimate goal is to apply the concept to all universities in the U.S. and eventually, the world.
Why
Social entrepreneurship possesses significant measures of unlocked potential to make the world a better place for all of its habitants. The social problems of today will have to be solved by humanity, and students at universities are the human beings with most potential to do so. By creating awareness and granting opportunities for hands-on experience within the field, university students through “Investing Together” have the capability of acting as catalysts for the future impact and acceleration of social entrepreneurship and ultimately social change worldwide.
How
The core capital required to launch and operate the fund will initially derive from students on campuses. By students investing 1% of their hourly salary from on-campus work or an equivalent lump sum, they are eligible to become members, earn percentage ownership and seek positions within the organization. Amongst other financing options, linking corporations to the funds and micro scale donations e.g. donations from students Meal Plan cards when paying for products in any of the university outlets for consumer products are possible sources of capital. There will exist an advisory board in intimate connection to the fund, offering professional guidance and advice on investment proposals, however, limited. The revenue generated from the interest of the loans will be reinvested in the fund for research funding and educational purposes. Every university shall have a separate fund acting as an umbrella organization to the main organization; however, the separate fund shall be autonomous and have total freedom over its assets and desired investment focus within the field.
