Access to clean drinking water, access to a healthier life.

There are many communities in Ghana and Africa as a whole who do not have access to tap water. These communities depend on dug-out wells, rivers and streams. They use this water to cook, wash and even for drinking purposes. These same rivers and streams also serve as sources of drinking water for live stock. This has led to the spread of water borne diseases such as cholera and dysentery and has caused lots of preventable deaths. Coupled with this is the fact that most of these communities are not even connected to the national power grid. To find a lasting and easy to maintain solution to their water problem is a necessity and would greatly help in improving the lives of people living in these communities.

A borehole water system powered by solar panel is being proposed. This bore hole can be set up in any community.  Africa has a lot of sunshine (fairly 10 hours of sunshine per day). This sunlight would be harnessed to power a water pumping machine that would pump the water through a filtration system, into a reservoir. with this filtered water available for free 24 hours a day, the poor and deprived villagers can have unrestricted access to clean drinking water. this would also go a long way to improve upon the health conditions in those communities.

FIVE PROJECT QUESTIONS Required (60 - 90 minutes)

1. What is your innovation?
An unmanned clean water pumping machine which is eco-friendly, cost effective and would provide clean drinking water to the poor and deprived communities in Ghana and Africa.
2. Who gains the most?
This project is aimed at providing free drinking water to the poor and deprived communities. It is a purely charitable project and would benefit the members of the communities and the government at large.
3. Who pays?
This project is going to be a collaboration between the government and the project team. Funds would come from the price money and assistance from the governmet.
4. What is your success?
1. For the first 12 months, there should be at least three implementations in order to measure success level. 2. In the next three years, more funds would be raised to provide at least two communities in each of the 10 regions of Ghana. 3. In the next five years, this project would go on a global scale, extending to other countries in Africa and beyond.
