To provide food to children from poor families thus promote education, nutrition and better health

According to the Food Research and Action Center, children's academic performance is highly impacted by lack of proper diet. Children who skip meals are more likely to have low test scores and repeat a grade. Food Keeps African children in school. Hunger and poverty are major reasons why children drop out of school. My innovation therefore is to provide children with food in schools. Most of these children have to walk for long distances everyday to and from school, on an empty stomach. They have a right to good food and nutrition, better health and education, just what my project will help provide. To do this, we will set up a farm project where the community will work on to grow food. We will however provide for all the incentives needed. Any surplus from the farm will then be sold and the money used to buy school uniforms for the children.

FIVE PROJECT QUESTIONS Required (60 - 90 minutes)

1. What is your innovation?
My innovation is to come up with a sustainable, economic incentive for low income families in marginalized areas to provide food for their children. We will manage farms and provide incentives for families to grow food. Surpluses will be sold and the money used to buy uniform and books for the kids.
2. Who gains the most?
The children who will have easy access to food, books and uniforms. They will also be motivated to work harder than before. The standards of living of families will also improve.
3. Who pays?
We will need assistance from donors in starting off the project and getting inputs for farming the land. Thereafter it will be more self sustainable through the sale of produce gained.
4. What is your success?
School drop-out cases will reduce by a substantial amount. Many children will be motivated to pursue their education and families will have a lesser burden of struggling to provide for their children.
