Breaking the wall of education by ICT
Nearly 80% of the population of Bangladesh lives in rural areas. Majority of people living in these areas are very poor and have limited resources to support themselves. The opportunities to obtain quality education are few and far between. Our project aims to create an infrastructure to deliver quality teaching material to students in these areas to help them gain admission for top universities.
Our team provides DVD Contents and Lecture Sheets for students residing in rural areas in Bangladesh. In 2010, we started with a single school catering to 200 high school students. Initially, we offered total 60 hour teaching content for 3 subjects. Our project has grown by leaps and bounds since then. By 2012-2013, we had established 4 schools that supported 620 students. 7 subjects are being offered currently amounting to 150 hours of teaching content. We are extremely diligent in selecting contents for DVDs and only take help from the best teachers in Bangladesh
Girls comprise of nearly 50% of the students that enroll in our schools which is remarkable for rural areas where female education has often been neglected. We allow flexible school timings for our students, especially during harvesting and planting seasons when they are expected to help their parents in fields.
In 2012, University of Tokyo in Japan conducted impact research on e-Education. Kyoto University in Japan also plans to do the same in 2013-2014
70% of our students passed university entrance exams from 2010 to 2011. The response from the students is overwhelming. In 2013 alone, more than 1300 students have applied for e-Education. Due to resource limitations we are not able to enroll all those who apply for admission in our schools. We are constantly striving towards improving our teaching content, expanding our infrastructure and enlisting support from local authorities and government.
We are preparing a roadmap for taking our project to urban areas as well. We have a business plan to sell our DVD contents online at a nominal price.
By making education easily accessible to rural students, we enable them to gain admission in top universities and help them fulfill their ambitions.
